The variable adaptor main section works
just like a UR-E8 for attaching accessory lenses. It then has a moving
outer sleeve with the 62mm thread. The outer sleeve will extend
out so you can go to full zoom with a 62mm filter attached with out
the camera lens hitting the filter. If you go to full wide angle with
the adaptor & filter extended there is a bit of vignetting.
Now if you pull the adaptor back so the filter is up against the lens
there is no vignetting. The only down side is that you have to
remember to extend the unit before zooming or you will get the lens
cap error.
The Variable adaptor can also be used as a lens hood. It works well with a CP5700-46mm snap on adaptor, 46mm UV filter and a 46mm lens cap on the camera lens. A 62mm lens cap on the variable adaptor could also be used. At full wide angle and the outer sleeve fully extended with out a 62mm filter attached there is no vignetting.
